Stop wasting your most valuable digital real estate. Learn how to use the built-in announcement banner in Google Sites to drive sales, promote events, and capture leads.
When someone lands on your website, you have about three seconds to grab their attention. Most people look at the very top of the screen first. That thin strip of space is your "Prime Real Estate."
Google Sites has a built-in Announcement Banner feature that lets you place a high-visibility message across the top of every page. Whether you're running a seasonal sale or just want people to join your mailing list, this is your loudest megaphone. By using the banner strategically, your Stride template stops being a "static brochure" and starts acting like a live, breathing storefront that reacts to your business needs in real-time.
Open your site in Google Sites.
Click the Settings (Gear Icon ⚙️) in the top right.
Select Announcement banner.
Toggle on Show banner.
Banner Color: Don't just stick with grey. Pick a bold color from your brand palette that contrasts with your header. If your site is white and blue, try a soft orange or a bold navy banner to make it "pop."
Visibility: You can choose to show the banner only on the home page or on every page. For big sales or emergency updates (like "Fully Booked for March"), show it on all pages.
Because space is limited, every word has to work for its living. Avoid "Welcome to my site." Instead, use Action Verbs.
👎 Bad: "We have a newsletter you can join."
👍 Good: "Join the inner circle for 10% off your first booking! [Link]"
👎 Bad: "We are closed on Mondays."
👍 Good: "New Spring Yoga Schedule is Live! View Times [Link]"
The Lead Magnet: Use the banner to offer a freebie (like a PDF guide) in exchange for an email. “Free Handyman Maintenance Checklist - Download Here.”
The Urgent Update: If you’re a tradesperson and you’ve had a cancellation, use the banner to fill the gap. “Last Minute Slot Available for This Friday! Call Now.”
The Trust Builder: Use it to highlight an award or a milestone. “Voted Best Local Studio 2025 - See Why.”
A banner without a link is just text. Always provide a "Button Label" and a link to a specific page (like your Contact page or a Google Form). This turns a passive reader into an active lead.
